Our Story
Our mission is to change the role of young people in state and local politics.
Youth in Local Progressive Politics hopes to change the way youth participate in local and state politics. In its inaugural project, Let’s Win Locally, YILPP is organizing youth-centered phonebanking events for local progressive candidates in preparation for the November 2, the 2021 election. We hope to provide the volunteer strength and excitement that is often missing on local campaigns while simultaneously bringing more young people into political advocacy.
After working on multiple state and local campaigns, founder Saanvi Bhatia realized the significant lack of young people in local political and government spaces. At the same time, she noticed high schoolers around her caring fiercely about social and political issues. To construct a bridge between these spaces and individuals, she created Youth in Local Progressive Politics (YILPP) to provide young people with a pathway to get involved and create real change in the communities around them.
